This huge rock was a landmark for early pioneers and Northwest Mounted Police travelling the Sounding Lake Trail between the NWMP posts of Battleford, SK and Sounding Lake, AB. Also along the trail was the Swarthmore Church built in 1905 by Quakers. Explanatory plaques on site.

Big Rock - take Hwy 29 S of Battleford for approximately 20km, turn W on Grid 787 (Cloan Rd) for 17km. Watch for signs. Swarthmore Church Site is another 5.5km W to Swarthmore Rd, 3.2km S and 1km W.
