Costumed guides tell a fascinating tale at this National Heritage Site, which marks its 10th anniversary in 2013. Exiled from their homeland, Russian Doukhobors settled in the area in 1899, digging into the river ravine for shelter. These tenacious pioneers lived in the Dugout Houses until 1904 when log houses were built. Visitors are asked to respect this delicate archaeological site. Located on private property. Billed as the largest tree in Saskatchewan, The "Popoff" tree, located 18km SE of Blaine Lake, is an 160 year old plus cottonwood hybrid with a trunk circumphence of 5m. One-hour drive N of the city of Saskatoon.
