Cairn marking the northern terminus of this trail is located at Fort Walsh National Historic Site and Fort Battleford National Historic Site.

Internationally significant historic trail from Forts Benton and Assiniboine in Montana to Forts Walsh and Battleford. Once known as the Fort Benton Trail, this overland route was a major supply/communications corridor between Canada and the USA prior to 1883.
