Watch for majestic free ranging wild Plains Bison, elk, moose, deer, wolves, bear and the countless species of birds and waterfowl that inhabit this riparian paradise. ![]() Sturgeon River Ranch is located immediately west of the West Side Entrance to Prince Albert National Park, near Big River. The West Side of the Park is not accessible by motorized vehicles of any type and is preserved as one of Canada’s wildest, most untouched places. It is home to Canada’s only free ranging herd of wild Plains bison still within historic range. In the summer months, the West Side is accessible only by horse, horse-drawn wagon, foot or bicycle. At Sturgeon River Ranch, guests have the option of experiencing this beautiful area on horse or horse-drawn wagon. Package Details: ![]() Day 1: Arrive and get familiar. Take some time to get to know your horse. Take a guided ride into the Prince Albert National Park on the Valleyview Trail (3 hours). Join us back at the lodge for supper and a good night’s rest. Day 2: Head north to Tie Lake, just outside of the National Park (5 hours). Supper is our own fresh catch from the lake cooked over an open fire. Weather permitting, we sleep under the stars. Day 3: Back to the ranch. Soak in the hot tub or relax by the fire pit with some songs and stories. Day 4: Head out into the Prince Albert National Park to Sturgeon Crossing Warden Station. From there we ride the Amyot Trail and loop back to the West Side Trail and then back home (5 hours). Our best trail for spotting the wild free ranging bison in this area!
