This colourful, 45-minute ceremony includes the firing of the cannon, a troop drill display, the lowering of the flag with the playing of military music, followed by the March Past. Troop members wear the traditional scarlet tunic of the world-renowned Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Sergeant Major's ParadeIf you can't make it to one of this year's RCMP Sunset Retreat Ceremonies, be sure to catch the regularly scheduled Sergeant Major's Parade. From Monday to Friday, the colourful Sergeant Major's Parade is held shortly after 12:45pm on the Parade Square in front of the RCMP Chapel. The RCMP Sunset Retreat Ceremonies are performed every Tuesday during the the summer from July 1 until the end of August. There are only two more performance dates left this summer, August 11 and 18, 2009, at 6:30pm, weather permitting.
Make sure you check out the RCMP Heritage Centre. This new Arthur Erickson designed building shares the Royal Canadian Mounted Police story through the use of permanent and temporary exhibits, multimedia technologies and interactive programming and tours.
