Southern Prairie Railway is officially open for business in Ogema, Saskatchewan. Visitors will be treated to a railway excursion in a refurbished 1922 passenger coach, similar to what pioneers of that era would have experienced when arriving in this new and mysterious land.
In addition, each trip includes a day ticket to the Deep South Pioneer Museum in Ogema, which features a "pioneer village" of 30 historic buildings from Ogema and surrounding communities, as well as thousands of operating pieces of antique machinery and artifacts. The newest way to experience the beauty of southern Saskatchewan is by train!
This year there are three trips available: the Heritage Train, which leaves Ogema for Horizon, SK, where passengers can get off the train and tour a heritage grain elevator; the Star Gazer Train, which runs at night and is presented by members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada who will help passengers identify constellation, planets and much more; and the Pitchfork Fondue Train, which runs to Horizon and back and is capped off with a meal of pitchfork fondue steak, baby roasted potatoes, homemade baked beans with real smoked ham, fresh coleslaw and much more.
