Government House Celebrates 120th Anniversary

Amidst an array of elm and spruce trees stands Government House, one of Saskatchewan’s best kept secrets.

Built in 1891, and currently celebrating its 120th anniversary, Government House served as the official residence for the Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories and the Province of Saskatchewan.  

To this day Government House continues to function as the official offices for the Lieutenant Governor, but more importantly it stands as a living piece of history and as a reminder of Saskatchewan’s rich cultural heritage.

As part of its anniversary celebrations Government House is proud to announce 120 exciting programs and activities aimed at exploring Government House and the province’s history.

Discover the spirit of Saskatchewan’s first pioneers by taking part in Government House’s Geocaching in the Garden program, which invites individuals or teams to sign-out a map, compass and GPS and take part in an electronic treasure hunt while navigating the spacious 8.5 acres that make up the Edwardian Gardens that surround Government House. Or, pick up a picnic basket and blanket from The Butler’s Pantry and enjoy a traditional lunch in the Edwardian Gardens surrounded by cool green grass, beneath the canopy of leaves.  

Then check out the Amédée Forget Museum and the J.E.N. Wiebe Interpretive Centre for engaging, educational and interactive displays.

Government House is also proud to welcome The House Gallery by Yvette Moore, which features an exclusively Canadian collection as well as unique works by acclaimed Saskatchewan artist Yvette Moore.
