To read the current issue of SaskSecrets, click here.Yorkton Film Festival and Golden Sheaf AwardsMay 21-24, 2009The Yorkton Film Festival is the longest running festival of its kind in North America. ![]() Over the years, the festival has garnered an esteemed reputation as one of the country's top short film and video festivals; a reputation that attracts outstanding entries and personalities from across Canada. Established in 1947 as the Yorkton Film Council, the first festival was held in 1950, making it Canada's first Short Film & Video Festival. The very first Golden Sheaf Award was introduced in 1958 and was presented to the most outstanding film entry in the festival. The Yorkton Film Festival has undergone many changes since its inception and is about to celebrate its 62nd year of great shorts. It currently presents Golden Sheaf Awards in 21 genre categories and 3 craft awards categories.
In addition, this year’s festival will also feature a number of workshops including Media in Transition, Emerging Producers, and the Ask an Expert Industry Fair. Click here for more information about workshops. It will also host the prestigious "Golden Sheaf" awards, held at the Gallagher Centre.

New this year is the establishment of the Ruth Shaw Award for the best Saskatchewan production. Ruth Shaw, who is the last of the original festival members, celebrated her 90th birthday in October at a dinner hosted by the Festival.
From the kickoff party to screenings to the Gala, the Yorkton Film Festival is jam-packed with exciting events.
