Yorkton Film Festival – Golden Sheaf Awards

The Yorkton Film Festival is the longest running festival of its kind in Canada. Over six decades the festival has established a reputation as one of the country's top film festivals. 

The first festival was held in 1950, making it Canada's first short film festival. The very first Golden Sheaf Award was introduced in 1958 and was presented to the most outstanding film entry in the festival. As the medium developed, video shorts were also admitted into the competition in the 1980s.

This year’s Festival runs from May 26-29, 2011, and includes some great workshops and speakers, as well as the popular prairie LobsterBlast, which features fresh lobster direct from the east coast, networking, skeet shooting, horseshoe pitching and bonfires.

There are approximately 400 film entries into this year’s Yorkton Film Festival, and on Saturday, May 28, the Golden Sheaf Awards Gala, hosted by MC Sheila Coles, will honour the best in Canadian short film.
