Saskatchewan Science Centre Presents Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

On April 15, 1912, RMS Titanic, the world’s largest ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg. The tragedy claimed more than 1,500 lives, and subsequently altered the world’s confidence in modern technology. Today, almost 100 years later, more than 100 legendary artifacts conserved from the Ship’s debris field will be showcased, offering visitors a poignant look at this iconic Ship and its passengers.   

From October 1, 2011 – March 4, 2012, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, will be on display at the Saskatchewan Science Centre  in Regina. Over the past 15 years it has been seen by more than 22 million people throughout North America and Europe.

The exhibition has been designed with a focus on the legendary RMS Titanic’s compelling human stories as best told through authentic artifacts and extensive room re-creations. Perfume from a maker who was traveling to New York to sell his samples, china etched with the logo of the elite White Star Line, and many other authentic objects offer haunting, emotional connections to lives abruptly ended or forever altered.

Upon entering the exhibit visitors will quickly be drawn back in time to 1912, each receiving a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger aboard Titanic. Then begins a chronological journey through the life of the Titanic, beginning with the ship’s construction, exploring life on board, and ending with the ill-fated sinking and amazing artifact rescue efforts.

Visitors will marvel at the re-created first class cabin and press their palms against an iceberg while learning of countless stories of heroism and humanity. Lastly, guests will take their boarding pass to the memorial wall and discover whether their passenger and traveling companions survived or perished.
