CBC Radio 2 introduces the Great Canadian Song Quest! This annual music contest gets Canadian musicians to collaborate with Canadian music fans to create new songs - 13 new songs in all, one from each province and territory. The theme of this year’s Song Quest is 'road songs', and starting September 7, all Canadians will be encouraged to get involved by nominating a memorable stretch of road that they would like to have immortalized in a new Canadian road song. Once the most popular stretches of road have been determined for each province and territory, the Song Quest songwriters get to work. Thirteen of Canada’s most relevant songsmiths have been selected to write this year’s road songs. Just like last year’s Quest, Canadians have an important role to play. They’ll log onto the Song Quest 2010 website and will nominate and vote for a memorable stretch of road that they think should be included in these newly-commissioned songs. Key Dates: September 7: Quest launch. Canadians nominate stretches of road. Meet the musicians. For more information, visit their website.

How did the small Ontario town of Bobcaygeon get into a Tragically Hip song? How about Suzanne? Do you think she knew she’d be in a Leonard Cohen song? You’d have to be pretty lucky to be immortalized in a song. That is, unless you had the help of CBC Radio 2.
